If you determine that slow leak is the problem, the only possible resolution is to replace the washer. To start with, you need to turn off the main valve, which can be located either on the basement or the utility room. You have to remove the faucet, first by unscrewing the cap. Afterwards, just loosen the screw and pull the handle out of the stem of the faucet. Remove the packing nut using either an adjustable wrench or a pair of pliers. Removing the stem is as simple as twisting it out as if turning on the water. At the very bottom of the stem, the old washer is located which you have to replace.
The installation of the new washer is simple, you just need to place it on the stem. And then reinstall the stem, putting the packing nut back after. Afterwards, place the handle into the faucet back to its proper place. To complete the work, simply replace the handle and the decorative cap onto its rightful place.
If the issue is occuring because of a loose connection, you can just fix it by tightening the nut right under the handle. It’s very simple to repair it. And the last thing to do is to check your faucet if there are no more leaks.
Those are some of the basic steps you can do to resolve leaky faucets. If you are having difficulties in fixing the leaky faucet, better ask the services of a professional plumber. We can help at Rancho Bernardo plumbing.
